Rodent Viewing All our rodents featured on this page are currently in foster homes. They do not come in to our small animal days as travelling can be stressful for them. If you see an animal on the website that you are REALLY interested in, then please call us as we can make arrangements for you to meet that animal at the Brent Knoll Animal Centre on a convenient day for you and the fosterer. |

Little Boots Ref WS4150 Syrian Hamster, 8 month old, Female. 'Little boots' is a pretty girl, she is tortieshell in colour with little white boots (paws)!! In her previous home she didn't receive much if any handling, so she became nippy. Since being fostered (by me 'Katy') she has come on in confidence and loves to run a marathon in her wheel which at first was a real novelty for her as her cage in her previous home sadly did not have anything in it. She would love to be adopted by someone with hamster experience that has time and patience to get her used to being handled! She would love a nice BIG cage with plenty of tunnels, toys etc to keep her amused! Not suitable for children

Small Animal Cages The RSPCA has been campaigning for a better standard of living for small animals. Small animal cages are a part of this. We have guidelines in place, regarding this accommodation. As far as we are concerned the BIGGER the BETTER!! Syrian Hamsters (L x W x H) Solitary breed (must live singly)Cage approx size - 3sq ft (2ft6'' x 1ft 3'' x 1ft 3'' on 1 level) OR (1ft 3'' x 1ft 2'' on 2 levels). Russian Hamsters & Mice (L x W x H) Sociable species (Like to live in pairs) Same as syrian hamsters, however this cage size can accommodate a pair of them. A glass tank is ideal for these species. A mesh secure lid for good ventilation is required. Cage approx size - 3sq ft (2ft6'' x 1ft 3'' x 1ft 3'' on 1 level) OR (1ft 3'' x 1ft 2'' on 2 levels). Rats (L x W x H) Sociable species (Like to live in pairs/trios/groups) Cage approx size - 6sq ft (3ft x 2ft on 1 level) OR (2ft 6'' x 1ft 6'' x 3-4ft high on 2 levels). Gerbils (L x W x H) Sociable species (Like to live in pairs/trios/groups) Gerbils require a 'Gerbilarium' A fish tank is ideal for this, with a mesh secure lid for good ventilation. Gerbils love to dig and a tank is ideal for you to watch them!! Gerbilarium approx size - 2.7 sq ft (2ft x 1ft 4'' x 1ft 3'' on 1 level). Chinchillas/Degus (L x W x H) Sociable species (Like to live in pairs/trios/groups) Cage approx size - 6sq ft * Minimum 4ft high (i.e. 3ft x 2ft x4ft ). PLEASE NOTE that these sizes are GUIDELINES and there will always be an element of flexibility providing good welfare standards can be maintained. We understand that this can all be a bit confusing! For more details or advice come to our Small Animal Days or give us a call on 01278 782671. |
