Dog Adoption Procedure

Viewing of the dogs will now be within the normal viewing times of the centre. 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4.30pm. Every day except we are closed on Mondays.

Please come at least 30mins before closing to allow plenty of time.

Dogs you are interested to meet and potentially adopt will be brought to you one at at a time by a member of staff in our new meet and greet paddock, situated between the reception and the kennels.

Public will NOT be permitted to walk around the kennels as this distresses the dogs too much. If you would like to see what our kennels look like please click this link to the Brent Knoll Animal Centre.

If you see a dog on the website that you are very interested in, please call us at Brent Knoll. We can hold that dog on a TEMPORARY RESERVE which means you have 'first refusal'. The temporary reserve can only be held on that dog until 4pm on the next day. Everyone living in your household including any existing dogs MUST meet your potential new dog. This can usually be done over a couple of trips if there are several people in the house (We try to accommodate where possible, due to children being at school etc). We usually cannot hold dogs on reserves for more than 2-3 days as we don't want to miss any good homes.

Adoption fees for Dogs: £125.00

This adoption fee includes Micro-chipping & Neutering or Spaying.

*DOG OF THE MONTH*

Jeff Ref WD4825

Lurcher, 14 month old, Neutered Male.

Jeff is a deaf dog who came from a busy household. He hasn’t had any one-on-one training nor is he used to being on his own.

He shared his last home with cats and dogs so could possibly live with them in future. Because of his disability, teaching Jeff manners and good behaviour may be slightly harder so a family with dedication and time to attending training classes is necessary.

He is housetrained and Travels well in the car.

Dogs - Yes

Cats - Yes if used to a dog.

Children 7 years+

Kizzy Ref WD5014

Jack Russell, 11 year old, Spayed Female

This lovely older lady is young at heart and in mind! She has a wonderful personality and has so much love to give; she is looking for a retirement home, however still has plenty of energy and life in her. Kizzy could possible live with a family with teenage children, a family that will understand her needs as she gets older.

She is on an Assisted Adoption Agreement. This is due to an ongoing skin condition that Kizzy has requiring her to be on a low dose of medication. Please give us a call or pop in if you would like more information and would like to meet her.

Cats - Possibly ok, Careful introduction needed

Dogs - Yes

Children - Teenage +

I'VE BEEN RESERVED!

DOG WALKING

We need dog walkers to walk the dogs at Brent Knoll.

Dog walking is 6 days a week - (everyday EXCEPT Mondays as we are closed).

Once enrolled, dog walkers are asked to arrive 9.30am onwards and to have all dogs back by 11.30am.

A lot of our dogs are very big, boisterous and strong so we are especially looking for some dog walkers that are physically able to walk these types of dogs.

All new volunteer walkers are recruited on a monthly basis and a health and safety induction will be carried out.

PLEASE if you have a spare morning and would like to help, then call us on 01278 782671 to book your induction.

Thank you

Sasha Ref WD5058

Staffie X, 2 year old, Spayed Female

Sasha arrived here after being abandoned in an empty property by her previous owners. We have some history and have gotten to know her very well via our assessments. She has a wonderful personality and would make a lovely addition to a family.

Sasha is housetrained.

No Cats

Dogs - Yes but can be boisterous.

Children 7 yrs +

Website

All of our dogs that we have available for adoption are featured on this page.

Please call us on 01278 782671 if you see a dog you that you would like to meet.

Neutering

Where possible we neuter all the dogs. If the dog you select has not been neutered at the time of the adoption you will receive a Voucher.

Micro-chipping

We microchip all of our dogs when they come in to our care. Once adopted they then get registered to the new owner.

Arden Grange Food

We feed all of our dogs on the complete dry food 'Arden Grange'. This can be purchased from us at the time of adoption and onwards and from various local retailers. Purchasing this food from us WILL help us to feed the dogs left behind in the kennels for a month.

*Full details of all this will be explained to you during the adoption*

Russ WD4995 & Joe WD4996

Greyhounds, 7yrs & 8yrs, both Neutered Males

Russ (right, brindle) and Joe (left, black) are ex racing greyhounds; they were transferred here from Cornwall RSPCA and have been together for quite a long time.

We are looking for a home where they can go together and continue their companionship within a new family - although we will home them separately if necessary. Experience of the breed will be needed as they are very typical AND ex racers so responsible ownership must be 100%. These lovely lads really do deserve a quiet retirement home.

Cats - NO!

Dogs - Fine with each other

                                                                                                                                                                   Children - Teenage +

Rolo Ref WD4997

Staffy cross, 2yrs old (approx), Neutered Male

Rolo was an unclaimed stray found in the Bristol area, he was transferred to our centre after not managing to find a home. As a stray we have no history of how or where he has lived prior to coming into RSPCA care.

Since being here we have re-assessed his temperament and sociability with other dogs and he has passed very well, but he is typical of his breed (boisterous/ OTT). He is not suitable with cats and small animals so cannot be re-homed where there are pre-existing pets, However he could live with a balanced friendly dog. Please visit or call us if you feel you can give this lovely chap the second chance he deserves.

Cats - No

Dogs - Yes

Children - Teenage +

Millie Ref WD4329

Collie x Staffie, 2yrs old, Neutered Female

Millie came into our care after her owner was unable to keep her. Since being here she has passed all of her assessments very well, she has a wonderful character and would make a fine addition to the right family.

Millie can be quite boisterous and plays rough with toys, for this reason we are looking for a family that have owned a similar type of dog in the past.

Cats - must be a confident cat

Dogs - Yes

Children - Yes, 7yrs +

Roxy Ref WD4844

Dogue de Bordeaux ,4/5yrs old, Neutered Female

Roxy is a beautiful girl with a fabulous personality; once she gets to know you she’s ever so funny! She is a definite favourite with all the staff at the centre.

Due to her previous history, and the unfortunate stigma that surrounds this type of dog, for her own protection we are looking to place Roxy in an owned property in a low density population area (i.e. NOT a housing estate), in an adult home, that preferably has experience of the breed.

Cats - Yes, has previously lived with

Dogs - Yes

Children - No, strictly adult home only

Womble Ref WD4987

Lurcher, between 2-5 yrs old, Male

Womble came to us as a stray in really poor condition - he was very thin and had a serious flea infestation. You may be able to see the patches on his side (middle picture). Since that time Womble has been treated and is doing brilliantly.

He has passed all of his assessments, but could do with some practise socialising with other dogs. He has a chilled out attitude and loves affection. And what a beautiful face! Once all his hair has grown back and he’s gained reasonable weight you will never know he wasn’t cared for. Please read his behavioural and medical declarations prior to meeting him.

Cats - no

Dogs - Could do with some practice

Children - Possibly 7+

Max Ref WD 4766

Lurcher, 3yrs old, Neutered Male

As you can see, there is nothing Max likes better than a kiss and a cuddle! He is a lovely dog, and a good all rounder, except for cats and small animals. This is a common trait of lurchers.

He has a good level of obedience and would fit in well with a family with no animals other than possibly another dog, and that have experience of sight-hound types.

Cats - No

Dogs - Yes

Children  - 3yrs +
